When British rocker Pete Doherty heard the tragic news that his long-term friend and fellow musician Amy Winehouse had been found dead at her Camden home he was absolutely devastated.
Recently released from prison for being in possession of class A drug cocaine, the Libertines singer and notorious drug user is now living in a small cringy bedsit not far from where his close friend Amy Winehouse lived in her £2.5million three storey house.
Many people who know Doherty, 32, believe that Amy’s death at 27-years-old is the wake-up call that he needs because he is terrified of ending up young and dying alone in his bed.
“Pete was very close to Amy and he said that it was a terrible loss.
“He said she was a great person to have in his life.
“He is heartbroken and is determined to get clean and sober himself as he can see how drugs are ruining lives around him.
“He doesn’t want to be a young corpse.
“He just wants to focus on his music.
“He feels guilty because he and Amy have done loads of drugs together but he knows how much of a hold drink and drugs can have.
“He says she was too beautiful and special for this world and said she had an indomitable spirit and beautiful soul”, said a close friend.
Doherty hadn’t seen Amy since his release from prison earlier this month but it isn’t a secret that the Back to Black singer did offer him a shoulder to cry on and a place to stay if he needed it.
Whether the tragic death of Amy Winehouse is the wake-up call that the drug user Doherty needs remains to be seen, but according to him:
“The world hasn’t seen the end of Pete Doherty yet.
