Former First lady Betty Ford passes Away at the age of 93-years-old

Tributes have been pouring in upon hearing the sad news that the former First Lady Betty Ford has passed away at the grand age of 93-years-old at her home in California where she has lived since the death of her husband in 2006.

Betty Ford was the late republican Gerald Ford’s widow and the founder of the famous Betty Ford Rehabilitation Center which she established in  1982, which has not only helped many high-profile celebrities to get help to recover from their substance abuse but thousands of many other addicts also.

Not only did this hard-working former first lady battle with breast cancer just weeks before she moved into the White house with her husband, but she worked tirelessly to lift the stigma on drug and alcohol abuse by admitting that she too suffered from drug and alcohol related addictions.

The late Betty Ford underwent a full mastectomy and took from her experience the opportunity in her office as being the first lady, to campaign for greater awareness of breast cancer and the risk factors involved.

President Barack Obama paid his own personal tribute to Betty Ford:

“As our nations First lady, she was a powerful advocate for women’s health and women’s rights.

“After leaving the White House, Mrs Ford helped to reduce the social stigma surrounding addiction and inspired thousands to seek help and treatment.”
