Following the devastating carnage and mayhem that hit the streets of Tottenham, North London over the weekend as hundreds of rioters took to the streets in a violent, mindless and self-indulgent protest about local man Mark Duggan being shot dead by armed police on Thursday afternoon.
Tottenham-born and bred Member of Parliament for the wrecked and smouldering remains of an already deprived community of North London, David Lammy said that the inexcusable, shocking and chaotic Tottenham Riots 2011 have ripped the heart out of his beloved communtiy.
David Lammy, 39, has been the local MP for the areas since 2000.
Standing close to Tottenham High Road the stunned and horrified MP said:
“What happened here on Thursday raised huge quuestions and we need answers.
“But the response to that is not to loot and rob.
“There are homeless people standing back there.
“We have police officers in hospital, some are seriously injured.
“It is a disgrace.
“This must stop.
“A community that was already hurting has now had its heart ripped out.
“The post office, shops, newsagents, the counil building that deals with customers complaints, were smashed to pieces by mindless, mindless people, many of whom had come from afar with intent on causing trouble” slammed the communities MP.
“There will be a transparent and through investigation into Mark Duggan’s death.
” Those people that saw their possessions go up in flames and those that had to flee have a right to know why these dreadful events took place.
“For every person on camera throwing stones, there will be 1,000 others off camera rebuilding what they destroyed.
“This is the Tottenham I grew up in.
“The Tottenham I live in”, added a desolated David Lammy
