For many travellers in the UK cheap and affordable rail fare already appears to be a thing of the past but for millions of the nations daily commuters already finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet, it’s set to get a whole lot worse as train fares are set to increase by a massive 13 per-cent come January.
Summer isn’t even over yet but already for millions of dependent UK train commuters the devastating news means that they are having to face an even bleaker winter following  all energy and domestic bills increased by 18-per cent and food bills going through the roof they can forget any form of cheap train travel following massive increases that is sure to hit their empty pockets even harder.
“Commuters will be absolutely disgusted to be told that they will be facing a fare rise of eight per cent at a time when salaries are being frozen and rail companies are taking billions out of the industry in subsidies.
“If you look at punctuality of the train companies, its about where it was when British rail was privatised so there has been no massive improvement to justify the fare increases.
“What we’re going to see with these rises are the hard working people of this country being extorted for more money by train companies”, blasted General Secretary of the RMT Rail Union Bob Crow.
“Affordable rial travel is vital for passengers.
“Thses massive fare rises will be a disaster for people alreadys truggling with rising costs.
“The country can’t afford fare rises on such a punitive scale”, added Campaign for Better Transport Alexandra Woodsworth.
Train operating companies insist that all train fare increases are necessary to improve the quality of services to the customers, to help pay for better trains, stations, and provide faster and more punctual trains.
