400m Hurdler Dai Greene Wins Britain's First Gold Medal at World Athletic Championships 2011 in Daegu Korea

The Brits are celebrating home and away this afternnon thanks to Welsh athlete Dai Greene storming home in a magnificent sprint claiming the first gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the World Athletic Championships 2011 in Daegu, Korea.

Claiming his victorious Gold medal in 48.26 seconds Dai Greene, 25, said:

“Coming off the last hurdle I had so much momentum. I just thought, I can’t let this go, this is mine. I’m really relieved and really proud.”

His Gold Medal win makes the proud Welshman not only the European and Commonwealth Champion but also the World Champion 400m Hurdler:

“I’ve been working so hard for this for a number of years. I always believed I could make it but I had to dig deep to pull it out. I do get a bit nervous but I seem to be able to handle it better than the rest”, added Dai who came past Puerto rico’s javier Culson off the final barrier leaving him to collect the Silver medal in a time of 48.44 and South Africa’s LJ van Zyl who took bronze in 48.80 to claim his well-deserved victory and fly the British flag high in Korea.
