Manchester United and England football ace Wayne Rooney is planning to sue Â The News of the World for hacking his mobile phone after the allegations were made that he had paid Â£1,200-a-night for sex with prostitute jenny Thompson, 25, while his wife Coleen was pregnant with the couple’s young son Kai.
The 25-year-old striker has been informed by investigating police officers that he was targeted by the 168-year-old British tabloid newspaper’s former shamed snoop and Private Eye, Mulcaire.
Notorious father-of-five Glen Mulcaire, 40, was previously sent to prison for six-months in 2007 for admitting that he had intercepted voicemails on royal aides’ mobile phones.
Rooney, in a meeting with the detectives was shown extracts from Mulcaire’s notes which appeared to confirm that certain voicemails of his had been intercepted.
“Scotland Yard detectives came to see me earlier and showed me some documents.
“Looks like a newspaper have hacked into my phone.
“Big Surprise”, Tweeted Rooney.
It is believed that Rooney’s mobile phone is among a further 4,000 phone’s that have been hacked.
A Manchester law Firm from Hill Dickinson confirmed yesterday that it had been hired by Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford to seek damages.
“We will be investigating whether a civil claim can be brought”, said the law firms spokesperson.
