I don’t think anyone doubts what a tough cookie this guy really is but even for David Williams who’s already proved his strength of character by swimming the English Chanel for Comic Relief, Â his 140-mile marathon swim down the entire Thames river for charity is proving an incredibly difficult challenge to the comedian.
Not only has the poor chap had to endure freezing water temperatures struggling against howling gales but he’s also had the great misfortune of being crippled by stomach cramps which have been caused by the bacteria from sewage in the Thames.
But fair play, what a true blue British trooper the man with a great big charity heart because he’s tucked his woes firmly into his famous Speedos and continues upwards and onwards in the name of Sports Relief Charity.
Hundreds of well wishers have lined the route of his gruelling 140-mile Thames river swim encouraging him on every step of the way and today on top of all his amazing courage he was hailed a hero for rescuing a dog that jumped in the river to greet him but had trouble getting back out.
The dog named Vinny suffers from hip Dysplasia and was really struggling to get out just as David was swimming past.
‘David Williams stopped and swam over to help me get Vinny out of the water and when you think about what he’s going through in the swim makes him a totally amazing man. He’s A Hero!”, praised the dogs owner Steve Outten.
So far the Little Britain star has raised a whopping £600,000:
‘We have broken through the 100 mile barrier now which is great, but once I reach Teddington Lock the Thames becomes tidal and there’s a whole new set of challenges.
‘The currents and undertows are very dangerous so I’ll need to be strong” said the incredible Sports Relief  Heroic Swimmer.
