As the world commemorates the horrific Al-Qaeda terror attacks that cost the lives of thousands of innocent people in the USA on 11th September 2001 there is one haunting picture that will remain etched upon our hearts and minds forever.
The chilling image is that of the Falling Man who plunged headfirst to the ground thousands of feet below from the North Twin Tower in New York at 9:41am.
Many of us can only imagine the agony he must have suffered taking the decision to end his life by jumping to his death rather than dying in the flames of the tower on the day that changed the world.
The only freedom he had been left with was how he chose to die.
9/11 changed the way each of us we walk, talk, live and fear because since that day the world has paid a huge price in blood for the murderous actions of Osama Bin Laden’s fanatical beliefs.
We are now a world that lives in constant fear of another terrorist attack and despite none yet matching the horror of 9/11, the smell and taste of Al-Qaeda’s perpetual threats upon each of our lives has far from gone away.
Osama Bin Laden is dead but his evil influence lives on.
Today the world remembers the terrifying slaughter of thousands of lives in the 9/11 tragedy.
A human tragedy that must never be allowed to be repeated.
The fight against terrorism continues.
