Shocking details have emerged that six men stormed into the British newlyweds cottage at the Kiwayu Safari Village in Kenya ordering them to pass over their possessions.
The groom was then shot and killed by the gunmen before they carried his new wife away with them on a speedboat just before dawn yesterday.
The dead man has not been named but foreign officials are working hard to secure the woman’s release:
“The information is that the British couple were on their honeymoon and because it is the off-season, were the only couple at the hotel.
“She was kidnapped at gunpoint and we fear that she was taken to Somalia.
“This is normally a quiet safe area so we are absolutely shocked and upset that this has happened.
“We are working to secure the safe and swift release of the British national who has been kidnapped and ask those involved to show compassion and release the individual immediately”, said the islands local politician Abu Chiaba.
As of yet the attackers have made no contact with the authorities.
Update:
The identity of the man killed by gunmen in Kenya is British tourist David Tebbutt, 58, who died from a single gun shot at the £600-a- night Kiwayu Safari Village luxury resort near the border of lawless Somalia.
His wife Mrs Judith Tebbutt, 56, has been kidnapped by the gunmen and taken away by force from the island by speedboat.
The Kenyan army have now joined in for the frantic search for hostage Judith Tebutt.
The British couple are from Bishop’s Stortford, Herfordshire, UK.
