Cheryl Cole flew to Afghanistan yesterday on board a troop carrier plane where the star reportedly kept soldiers on board the flight entertained by undertaking duties of an air hostess by handing out drinks and snacks to them.
Her trip is to mark ten years of British operations in the war torn country ahead of the Pride of Britain Awards due to be screened on TV next month.
The 28-year-old singer plans to meet some of the 8,500 soldiers, sailors and airmen who are currently serving their country in Afghanistan and her visit will be filmed as a special tribute to each courageous member serving in the British Army,Royal Navy and Royal Air Force and will be shown on the ITV1 show.
“Cheryl’s amazed by the courage of all those serving our country.’When she was invited to go out to see them in Afghanistan, she immediately said ‘yes’.
She thinks it’s such a great cause and they deserve all the recognition they get”, said a spokesman for the star.
And it appears that her visit has certainly boosted the troops moral: ”
‘I couldn’t believe it was Cheryl Cole joining us.
‘It’s great she’s made the effort to come all the way out here.
‘Not only does she look amazing but it’s a pretty big gesture. It’s cheered everyone up”, said a soldier stationed at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province.
