Two Police Officers Injured Today After explosive device was Thrown At Then Outside Toys R US Store In Newtownabbey UK

Two police officers suffered wounds to their faces today after an explosive device was thrown at them after a call out to the Toys R Us store in Mill Road, Newtownabbey, along with two staff members who were treated for shock following the frightening incident.

“This was a despicable act, not only on police officers responding to a call for assistance but also on two members of the public.

“We are extremely fortunate that no one was more seriously hurt.

“I have spoken with my officers this morning and was struck by their steadfast determination to continue providing the personal, professional, protective service the community want and deserve.

“Those behind this attack are cowardly individuals who only seek to bring devastation and harm to their own community.

“We will not be deterred from our job of keeping the community safe”, warned Chief Inspector Derek McCamley to those who were responsible for the despicable attack.

A loud bang was reported to have been heard from residents living close by to the scene but thought it was fireworks going off.
