A married father of one living in an affluent are of Manchester has been held by police after he tackled two men who forced their way into his home.

Vincent Cooke had been alone in his home when the attackers broke in on Saturday evening.

His wife Karen Cooke and the couple’s 12-year-old son returned to the house during the incident but were unharmed.

Police and Ambulance staff were called to Midland Road In Bramhall, Stockport Manchester, shortly after 8pm on Saturday.

Paramedics gave first aid to the injured man believed to be in his thirties, but he died shortly after but the second man appeared to have fled the scene in a van that was parked closeby.

Police have since reported that they have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and recovered a white Citreon van.

Floral tributes to the man who died known locally as Raymond Jacob were left by his family members outside the house with one reading:

“Love you, son. Going to miss you more than anything.”

Vincent Cooke, 39, remains in police custody after the incident at his home on Saturday evening and police have not yet confirmed whether anyone else was injured or if indeed the intruders were known to the Cooke family.
