1955 Mercedes Race Car Worth £60,000 Made Out of JunkÂ

If you happen to be a racing car enthusiast with plenty of time and patience on your hands you might want to take a leaf out of this group of friends book who painstakingly created an iconic 1955 Mercedes race car all made from scrap metal junk and is now valued to be worth a whopping £60,000.

It took the three friends seven months to create the masterpiece and despite being formed from 10,000 pieces of junk metal the classic 300 SLR ‘Uhlenhaut Coupe’ is now worth thousands even though it can never be driven.

In its testing days in 1955 the racing car reached speeds of 180mph and would have become the fastest car in the world if Mercedes had put it into production, alas however, the car was deemed too fast and dangerous at the time.

Until the unique creation by German lads,  Armin Ciesielski, Peter Brakel and Walter Willer, there were only two prototypes of the little racing jem in existence at the Mercedes museum in Germany.
