Apple’s iOS devices all come with pretty similar look and feel. The devices that get jailebroken allow users to customize their iDevices to their hearts desire.
The most popular tool for customizing the look and feel of iPhones, iPods and even iPads is called Winterboard and is available for free via Cydia.
Once winterboard is installed users may search and download a vast selection of customizations starting from a complete theme and up to custom lock screens, task bars, application icons and more.
Basically, Winterboard allows iOS users to customize nearly every aspect of their Apple device.
As nearly 40% of Apple users had already upgraded their iDevice to iOS 5 developers had been working on releasing a new version of Winterboard that will support the new operation system.
Last night, a final production version had been released over Cydia. The new version of Winterboard for iOS 5 is claimed to be fully compatible with iOS 5 although many of the main themes and add-ons for it are not yet iOS 5 compatible.
As a reminder – Ipod, Iphones and Ipad (not including Ipad 2 and iPhone 4s) are currently supported by the latest jailbreaks but are still tethered (meaning you have to re-do the jailbreak every time you do a reboot to your device).
Developers are still working on coding a non-tethered jailbreak solution for these devices along with finding a jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s which are said to carry the same boot loader system.
Jailbroken iOS 5 users may get the new winterboard free by updating their Cydia application.
