We have heard a lot of things about wine and its health benefits. Harvard Medical School established the anti-aging effects of red grapes contained in wine. It is also found to improve lung function because of the presence of antioxidants in white wine. It can also decrease the risk of stroke, ovarian cancer, heart attack, and coronary heart diseases.

Today, wine is found to be good for your skin too. It is important to drink wine for better protection when you are out in the sun. It can give you a dose of the needed SPF sauvignon blanc that can help guard your skin from the harmful UV rays.

According to the Spanish National Research Council and the University of Barcelona, there is a certain compound found in grapes contained in most wines that is responsible in protecting skin cells from the ultraviolet radiation that can damage the skin. Flavonoids, which are present in grapes, can stop the chemical reaction that harms skin cells which causes sun burns and sun damage.

Once the UV rays reaches your skin, they activate ROS or reactive oxygen species that is responsible in oxidizing molecules like DNA and lipid that when activated, which triggers skin cells to die. The flavonoids contained in grapes decrease the effects of ROS, thus helping in protecting the skin from sun damage. According to Marta Cascante of the University of Barcelona, wine can even be far better than most anti-sunburn products in the market today.
