Taylor Swift received the Woman of the Year award for the Billboard’s sixth annual Women in music event.
It was held in a New York restaurant, a lunchtime event and was commemorated with trade magazine’s women in music power players list.
After receiving the award, Taylor said, “I get to wear this beautiful dress and go to this wonderful event. It’s an amazing way to end what’s really an amazing year.”
Nicki Minaj was also given the Rising Star Award.
Taylor said that Nicki is one of her favorites.
“She’s one of my favorite artists to come along in the last couple of years and Superbass is my favorite song of the year.”
Katie Couric and Robin Roberts interviewed both of the stars.
Katie did not stop telling her admiration to Taylor.
“She’s very musical. I took her out of school, I did not even send a doctor’s note. I love the way Taylor comports herself. I’d like my daughters to emulate her. She’s gracious and sweet and well-mannered, but also in control.”
Roberts gushed over Nicki Minaj music and said her music ‘makes me feel good, it makes me move, makes me smile. She’s so wonderfully irreverent, and so talented.’
Robin asks Nicki if there was a time that she has doubted herself to succeed.
She said, “There’s always a little ounce of doubt in everything. I’ve had a lot of doors closed in my face. I’m no different from any other struggling artist, I just tried one last time.
The SuperBass singer also admires Taylor, saying, “I saw her last week and I told her, this is something you really had a hand in. ”
On her next album, Nicki said that she will never hold back.
“I’m just going to have fun, from beginning to the end.”
Katie asked Taylor how she keeps herself grounded after winning awards.
“I never felt entitled to play another sold out show or to win another award.”
“The woman in this room knows that you really have to work for everything you get.”
Taylor shares that her influences while she daydreams on her bedroom are Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain.
She also added that she listens to older music now, anything that sounds authentic.
The young singer also said that she plans to try acting.
“I want to surprise people in good ways. My favorite moments with my favorite artist’s careers are when they make a departure.”
But she insists that she has no plans to leave music behind.
“I want my writing to evolve, and I want to collaborate with other artists and continue to make music I’m proud of.”
