It was a sudden decision for the Los Angeles Lakers last Sunday as they dealt with an unhappy forward Lamar Odom to Dallas Mavericks.
It has been in a good side for the Los Angeles Lakers because they got the first round draft pick in 2012 and a traded player’s exception worth $8.9 million which is Odom’s salary this season.
When they have this kind of trade, they can get a player from another team by trading only a draft pick if the player that also earns $9 million. They will be able to use it for one year.
Kobe Bryant, who is close to his teammate Lamar, was surprised and perplexed.
He said, “I don’t like it. I’ve known Lamar for a long time, and for the team itself , he’s meant a lot in terms of versatility , his personality. He’s a big presence for us in the locker room, just from a team chemistry standpoint. He’s great bringing guys together and things of that nature.”
But he still looks at the bright side and will keep trusting his management.
“I trust management knows what they’re doing. I let them do their jobs, I never get in the way, but it’s tough. You’re talking about the Sixth man of the year last year. He played lights out.”
Kobe added that he did not like where Lamar will be heading – to the Dallas Mavericks which was the one who eliminated them on the Western Conference semifinals.
Rumors are spreading that the Lakers wants Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.
The Lakers revealed that Odom wanted to be traded last Friday. He was said to be upset that he was a part of the three team trade that will get Chris Paul to the team.
On the scheduled training camp, Odom showed up briefly for two days.
In an interview with Los Angeles times, Odom shared last Friday, “To me, I think it’s better to stay away. You know, the energy and all. I don’t know how it’s going to go right now.. It’s a little weird.”
