Los Angeles – Sad news for the third sex, as the federal appeals court disapproved the same-sex marriage.
The court decided that the same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and concluded that it has no purpose.
It is also said that it will lessen the status and human dignity for gays and lesbians.
It was a divided court with 2-1 ruling in the U.S. 9th Circuit of Appeals.
It also has a possibility to be not reviewed in the U.S. Supreme court.
Supporters of Proposition 8 said that they will vow for the appeal.
The ruling said, “Proposition 8 operates with no apparent purpose but to impose on gays and lesbians, through the public law, a majority’s private disapproval of them and their relationships.”
Supporters of Proposition 8 have two weeks to appeal to the circuit court and they have 90 days to apply on the Supreme court.
The lawyer of ProtectMarriage Andy Pugno said that the organization was not surprised by the decision. It is completely out of step with every other federal appellate and Supreme court decision in American history on the subject of marriage.
“Ever since the beginning of this case, we have known that the battle to preserve traditional marriage will ultimately be won or lost not here, but rather in the US Supreme court.”
Plaintiff Kris Perry talked about the decision in the Los Angeles Conference with his longtime partner and their teenage sons.
“Today, the 9th circuit said to our family that we are equal under the law. We can see over the dark wall of discrimination.”
